Kylie Klosterman was born on June 27th, 2014, coming into the world as perfect as ever. She has an older brother and sister that instantly fell in love the minute they laid eyes on her, as we did. Before leaving the hopsital she had failed her newborn hearing test. By 2 months old we would know that Kylie had Auditory Neuropathy. As we embarked on the new journey of having a profoundly deaf daughter, we started to notice she was delayed in her physical milestones. I would tell myself that she wasn't sitting on her own because of her hearing loss and being off balance. Some more time passed by and we decided to take Kylie to a genetic doctor. Upon the completion of Kylie's genetic testing we would find out that she was a rare chromosome deletion. She was missing Xq22. This deletion is rare and the outcomes are unknown. Kylie is now turning 8 and still unable to walk on her own, and weighing 80lbs. She has her daily wheelchair that she uses, but it is not user friendly for our families active lifestyle. Kylie's older sister play lacrosse and her older brother runs cross country. Both of these sports involve traveling on fields and trails and her wheelchair can not navigate through that. Our family loves the beach and camping and have found it now very difficult to get her transported around as we are on an adventure together. Up until now Kylie was able to have a jogging stroller but has now outgrown it and the wagons are just not ideal for all scenarios. There are times recently where we have to decide whether Kylie gets to participate or not depending on the terrain and the activity if we can manage getting her around. With an adaptive jogging stroller we would be able to afford Kylie all the opportunities to be involved in every activity we choose to do as a family.
