Consider before you configure:

R82 Mustang Gait Trainer

The Mustang is an anterior/posterior gait trainer that provides proper positioning and support for children while they learn the skills of stepping/walking.

The R82 Mustang provides excellent upper body support and adjustable angle positioning for forward tilt in the anterior configuration and full upright support in the posterior configuration. A variety of positioning accessories are available for children who need extra support, and are removable as their walking skills progress. The center spar is dynamic and helps mimic the natural up and down movement motion in walking.

The Mustang is an excellent choice for children with Cerebral Palsy and other developmental delays. It offers flexibility, growth and ease of use while children are learning to walk and adapting to their changing needs. The Mustang comes in four sizes suitable for children from 1 to 18 years of age.

Anterior Position

The anterior position is the right choice if the user is not able to take full weight-bearing on their feet or if their motor skills are reduced and the user needs support around the trunk and pelvis.

Posterior Position

The posterior postion is for users who have improved their walking skills, who are more stable in the trunk and who are capable of bearign their full weight.  The open frame makes it possible for users to move close to things and, if they do not use the handles, to carry objects around.

Ergonomics

The Mustang is designed to be as ergonomic as possible, allowing it to be used with a minimum of user lifting or handling. The user can actively participate in the transfer. Often it is necessary to make corrections in height adjustment, which is straight-forward thanks to the gas spring.

Maneuverability

Positioned in the Mustang, the user is close to the center of the frame.  THis makes it possible for the user to turn around their own vertical axis. Many users with postural asymmetry can have great difficulty in walking straight forward. Others are limited strength and require low friction wheels and swivel wheels for maximum maneuverability.  Additional drag and anti-rollback wheels to keep them on track.

 Adjustable Molded Supports

The Mustang chest support is molded to hold the trunk or the pelvis like a pair of hands. The support is height adjustable so support can be given at the correct level. This gives the possiblity of adjusting the support to allow the user to enjoy the greatest degree of trunk mobility while still maintaining a stable trunk.

 Correct Walking Pattern

The Mustang can be adjusted to tilt the user's center of gravity forward. For users with hip flexor contracture an anterior tilt in the pelvis means that the thigh has a greater range of posterior motion before the contracture limits it, allowing a greater stride length, walking speed and active mobility. Forward tilting of the trunk can also be used to facilitate stepping and walking in users with difficulty in initiating gait.
