How it works
Austin is a wonderful eight-year old boy with autism. He is non-verbal and suffers from extreme sensory processing overload meltdowns when he is around new people and places. He has a high sensitivity to his surroundings and, because he cannot communicate what is wrong, it has become dangerous for him to be taken anywhere outside of his house or the family car.
I am starting this campaign in the hopes of raising enough money for his amazing mom, Ashley, to have this jogging stroller/bike trailer which Austin would be able to use for the rest of his life.
When Austin was younger he loved to be taken places in his little red wagon (see picture). Ashley said that he felt safe and it was as if the wagon provided an invisible barrier for Austin to go outside without fear. Unfortunately, he has grown out of the wagon (he is currently 4'5" and 80+ lbs and growing rapidly).
As Austin has continued to grow, his meltdowns (which can happen multiple times a day and can last for up to 30 minutes at a time) have become dangerous and more difficult for Ashley to manage. Over the past year he has had to be taken to the ER several times (see one "after-photo") because he has hurt himself during a meltdown.
Please help Austin and Ashley buy this mode of transportation for them so that Austin can go places again! Any amount of money helps towards the goal. Also, if you are unable to contribute please share this campaign so we can reach out to as many as possible.
